CIX today announced a call for entries for the CIX Top 20 – a new honorific ranking that will showcase Canada’s hottest innovation companies. Firms on the hunt for funding or strategic partnerships can apply for “CIX Top 20” status and pitch themselves live in front of some of the most important investors in North America. Flash developer opportunities – Calling All Innovators & Open Screen Project Fund

Submissions are closing on Tues, June 30th for Nokia’s Calling All Innovators competition, with total cash and prizes worth more than $250,000. In addition to the Flash category in the competition, there is also an additional opportunity for developers of Flash apps and content through the Open Screen Project Fund.

Calling All Innovators:

Submissions close next Tuesday, June 30th for applications and ideas for the 2009 CAI competition in any of four categories:

• Flash – developers should submit their best applications that expand the capabilities of Flash Lite on Nokia devices.

• Internet Innovation – developers can submit either web applications known as Web Runtime widgets, or websites which are optimized for mobile browsing with Nokia devices.

• Emerging Markets and Mobile Necessities – developers are encouraged to submit their most innovative application using Nokia platforms, ranging from SMS through Series 40 and S60 device platforms. All applications will be evaluated, including those developed using Java, Python or open source.

• Apps on Maps – In this category, developers can submit new ideas (completed apps are not necessary at this stage) that harness the power of location-aware services using Ovi Maps on Nokia devices.

All the details and each category’s full description is online at: http://www.callingallinnovators.com/ .

Open Screen Project Fund

In the Calling All Innovators “Flash” category, there’s also an additional special prize of $10,000 USD for one application that has also received money from the Open Screen Project Fund this year. Basically, that means a chance to double-up on prize money for a Flash application … hey, it’s like summer sweepstakes!

The $10 million Open Screen Project Fund awards funding to developers who are creating applications and services for mobile, desktop and consumer electronics devices using the Adobe Flash® Platform. Initial areas for funding include applications focusing on: entertainment; social networking; productivity; gaming; and news & information.

Developers who want to submit their Flash application to the Open Screen Project fund can learn more at: http://www.openscreenproject.org/developers/get_started.html.

Then, they can go to the Calling All Innovators Flash category page at http://www.callingallinnovators.com/flash.aspx and submit the same application there for a possible additional $10K in Calling All Innovators prize money.
